DEIRDRE COLBURN - SCHOOL/COMMUNITY ADVISOR

Hi, I'm Deirdre Colburn. I'm honored to serve within OUSD alongside such a tremendously caring and competent group of individuals!

I come from a family full of educators and public servants, married a math professor, and am blessed to share my love of people and languages in my daily work as your School/Community Advisor. I'm a 5th generation Californian, born in San Diego, raised in La Jolla. I attended "half/half" public/parochial schools from preschool through high school, majored in Child Development at San Diego Mesa College. I was completely a homemaker for about 20 years, also a homeschooler for 8 of those years, later returned to college, majoring in Music at MiraCosta College when our kids enrolled in Vista public schools. I have been fortunate to maintain and increase fluency in Spanish through working in banking for many years off and on in La Jolla, Solana Beach and Vista and most significantly as a paraeducator in the Encinitas, Cardiff and Oceanside school districts.  I've been an instructional bilingual aide in those (3) districts, joined OUSD in 1997 and have been an SCAII since Fall 2002. I've worked at South Oceanside, Garrison, Jefferson schools. I've been at Lincoln since Fall 2005.

My husband of 40 years and I have resided in Vista since 1987, Cardiff-by-the-Sea since 1977. We have raised two beautiful children, a daughter and a son, both out on their own with their darling life partners for quite a few years. Our daughter, a writer and artist, recently relocated with her math professor husband to FSU Florida after several post-doctoral posts around the world.  Our son, an artist and co-owner of an independent bike shop in San Francisco, enjoys competitive cycling, photography, camping and exploring with his beautiful graphic artist girlfriend.

We're both each active in (4) vocal choirs in the area and perform throughout the year.  My husband continues as adjunct math faculty at in retirement at Palomar College, also tutoring K-12 kids in Vista and has occasional private adult students. We are active in our church jail ministry, enjoy travel, live symphony concerts, opera, plays, cooking, a bit of gardening, playing with our cat, Leonard. We occasionally even clean our house.

Please feel free to phone or email me, make an appointment to come in and chat. I'm happy to help!  (760) 901-8932  or dcolburn@oside.us
